WANDA DEE
Born in Harlem on April 12th & raised in The Bronx during the birth of Hip Hop, this trailblazing icon emerged as the genre’s 1st female DJ in the 70’s, when she also became the 1st female inductee into The Universal Zulu Nation by her DJ mentors AFRIKA BAMBAATAA & KOOL HERC (Hip Hop’s Godfather & Father). In the 80’s, as Hip Hop’s 1st female DJ, HARRY BELAFONTE cast her in “BEAT STREET”. She made Herstory as the 1st female Rapper signed to The U.K.’s most successful production team of STOCK, AITKEN & WATERMAN on PWL Records, where she also became the 1st female Rapper to go platinum with her debut single “BLUE EYES (’86) & then 2 more back-to-back consecutive platinum singles on Tuff City Records w/”TO THE BONE” b/w “THE GODESS (’89).
Shutting down Joe Clark’s Eastside High School during an annual all-star assembly variety show program produced by her Husband & Producer, Eric Floyd; where Wanda’s searing performance of ‘THE GODDESS” ended with her ripping the black satin Velcro bound pants of her 4 hot bodied dancers (down to their silver lame’ G-strings) resulted in over $40 million dollars of multimedia publicity, which in turn, drove her record sales to astronomical numbers & national notoriety, in day & age of no social media. As the 80’s closed, WANDA made her 2nd featured appearance in a motion picture, the urban cult classic; “EAST SIDE STORY”, which was written, produced, & cast by her Husband, ERIC FLOYD (who also co-starred in it with his discovery of a then 17-year-old, MARC ANTHONY).
In the 90’s, after selling over 3 million records in the Rap game, PETER WATERMAN re-signed Wanda to a new $5 million dollar recording / publishing deal with PWL, but this time as a singer (going down in history as ‘ the LAST act signed to Stock, Aiken & Waterman / PWL’); before their official disbanding after more than 200 Top 10 singles) where she was soon discovered by two interns there (BILL DRUMMOND & JIM CAUTY of THE KLF) who enlisted her no nonsense vocals & writing abilities to fashion the EDM groups first initial two hit singles “WHAT TIME IS LOVE?” & “LAST TRAIN TO TRANCENTRAL” off of THE WHITE ROOM album, which went on to score over 32 million records sold (to date) worldwide, platinum status in 77 countries & a demand for live shows by ‘The Voice of THE KLF’! In fact, they still hold the Guinness Book of World Record title as ‘The #1 Singles Selling Act of the 90’s’!
With now (4) four #1 records from one album charting globally, KLF producers abruptly disbanded, and Wanda, being world renowned as both the erotic centerpiece and exotic voice of their groundbreaking music videos / singles & having both a vested publishing interest in robust record sales as well as the personal blessing of ARISTA / BMG CEO CLIVE DAVIS, Wanda (after a swift legal wrangling with THE KLF) took THE KLF show on the road under the guise of THE KLF featuring The Goddess, WANDA DEE, only after KLF Producers, BILL DRUMMOND & JIM CAUTY vehemently refused both WANDA DEE & CLIVE DAVIS’ repeated request to all tour together in support of the groundbreaking album!
Today selling out in 150 cities in 90 countries on 6 continents, her high-octane signature exotic, erotic & hypnotic arena / festival / stadium shows have gone unchallenged as The Hottest Live Show in Dance Music, In the 2000’s, having continued platinum success w/solo album / single releases (“I WANNA SEE YOU SWEAT” / “I LIKE IT HARD” / “THE GODDESS IS HERE!” featuring superstar guest star duets w/FREDA PAYNE, D’ATRA HICKS, LOLEATTA HOLLOWAY, VALERIE SIMPSON, LINDA CLIFFORD, CAROL DOUGLAS, CAROL WILLIAMS, ALYSON WILLIAMS, PEGGI BLU, SHARON BROWN, FONDA RAE, TAANA GARDNER & THE EMOTIONS & a Las Vegas residency under her Husband’s ‘OLD SCHOOL PARTY’).
