As a graduate of the prestigious Australian Film Television and Radio School in 1996, President of The Australian Association of Voice Actors (AAVA) and the 2023 Winner of Best Voice Actors, Outstanding Body of Work – International, Simon Kennedy has a career of many faces.
Starting as a radio announcer in outback Australia Simon honed his craft for comedy writing and using his many voices, but he always vowed to make his way back to conquer his home city of Sydney, and beyond.
In 1998 Simon turned his skillset to acting and stand-up comedy starting a career lasting over 25 years making him one of Australia’s funniest and most bookable comedians. As a comedian Kennedy as appeared on countless TV shows (The Morning Show, Today Show, Joker Poker Series 1 & 2, and Stand-Up Australia to name a few).
When the Nova radio network launched in Australia (2001) with the credo “Sounds Different” they very quickly appointed Simon to a national role as they guy to make the Nova Network actually sound different. As the nation-wide head of Creative
Imaging, Simon got to put all his comedy, voice acting, and writing skills to use giving the brand an irreverent comedy edge helping Nova to rate #1 in multiple markets.
For over 6 years Simon hosted the weekend shows on Sydney’s Nova 96.9FM and often filling-in on the station’s #1 Breakfast show.
Since leaving radio to focus on stand-up comedy and voice acting Simon has been the promo voice for over a dozen TV networks in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific including ABC Australia, Comedy Central, Spike, Foxtel Movies, Movie
Network, Lifestyle, ABC Kids, ABC Me, ABC Family, ABC Comedy, Disney and more.
If you ask Simon what he really loves? Bringing characters to life in Animation and Gaming. And yes, he done a bit of that too.
Simon has a more serious side too. In 2014 his memoir 9/11 AND THE ART OF HAPPINESS was released to wide accolade. Recounting the experience of losing his mother Yvonne on Flight AA77 in the September 11 attacks, Simon unpacks the subjects of resilience, letting go of hatred and bitterness, and of course “what is the art of happiness?” and he regularly gives keynote speeches on these topics.
